Parent Involvement

Whatever your contribution, we know that parents and families play an important role in supporting their child's education.

Research has shown us that when schools and families work together, children do better, stay in school longer, are more engaged with their school work, go to school more regularly, behave better, and have better social skills. Parent engagement also results in longer term economic, social and emotional benefits.

There are a number of ways you can be involved in your school - from providing an important voice in the committees that help govern the school through to helping in your child's classroom, helping with reading, classroom cleaning or going on excursions.

We value the help our parents provide in building a strong community here at St Francis Xavier's.

Committees

School Board

The School Board is the governing body of the school. Representatives of the school community are elected at the AGM to assist in ensuring the school is administered well.  The School Board works in collaboration with the school’s Leadership Team and Parish Priests.  Board responsibilities range from policy direction to financial management and includes an awareness of the pastoral direction of the school.

Parent Community Committee

Our Parent Community Committee runs a number of events throughout the year – a great way to get to know other families. There have been a number of life-long friendships formed on these school grounds!

The Parent Community Committee is the coordinating body for parent activities in the school and promotes the vision and values of St Francis Xavier’s School while developing a spirit of mutual understanding and respect between home and school.  Through fund-raising and fun-raising events the committee endeavours to raise money for the school and maintain the strong feeling of community.  All parents / caregivers are invited to attend these meetings.  The Executive Committee is elected at the first meeting of the school year.

Other Committees

For St Francis Xavier’s School to be an effective service to the community we confidently call upon the active involvement of parents.  Each year we invite people to join a number of committees:

  • Capital Development and Maintenance
  • Sports Advisory
  • Canteen
  • Uniform
  • Out of School Hours Care
  • Education
  • Finance

The purpose of these committees is to provide guidance to those in positions of responsibility and to ensure the needs of all our community are met.
